Day 415 – August 10th 2023

Today we get to go to Mackinac Island. We left the dock around 10:30 am. No need to hurry because it’s only about a 2 hour trip. The seas in Lake Huron are a little rough. We have some pretty big waves!!! Our upper windows are getting splashed with water!!!

We pull into the marina at Mackinac Island and it is so beautiful!!! The whole town is like a postcard!!!

We get docked and head off to do a tour of the island by horse and buggy. It was so neat to see the island by horse carriage!!! The entire island is really beautiful!!! It was a 3 hour tour and we really enjoyed it!!!

We made it back to the boat and decided to walk around the town for a while. We ate dinner at Millie’s downtown. We walked back to the boat and called it a night!!!

Day 416 – August 11th 2023

This morning we slept in a little. We got up and got dressed and walked into town to do some souvenir shopping. I got a long sleeve shirt (it’s cold here y’all!!) and we got sweatshirts for all the grandkids!!

Main Street

For dinner we went to Chianti in the Mission Point hotel. The food here was amazing!!! It was a five course meal plus dessert and we got the different wine pairings with each course!!! We really enjoyed our meal!!! For some of the courses we had choices to choose from and we got different things. We really enjoyed our dinner.

After that we took the horse and buggy taxi back to the boat. I wish we always had horse and buggy taxis—they are really fun!!! We made it back to the boat and headed to bed.

Day 417 – August 12th 2023

This morning we got to sleep in a little. We got up and watched the golf tournament on tv. We walked around downtown some this afternoon.

Before dinner we took a taxi up to The Grand for cocktails but found out you can’t just go in if your not a hotel guest. You must pay admission! How rude and so on principle we left. But we had another nice carriage ride.

Another nice carriage ride

For dinner tonight we went to 1852 Grill Room at The Island House hotel. Our meals were fabulous!!! I had pasta and clams and it was delicious!!! When the plate arrived I thought I would be taking half of it home with me because it was a big dish, but noooo!!!! I ate the whole thing it was sooo good!!!! Richard got prime rib and he did have leftovers—it was just too much food!!! Needless to say we left there stuffed and waddled our way back to the boat!!! Off to bed with our full bellies!!!

Day 418 – August 13th 2923

This morning we have to say goodbye to Mackinac Island!!! It is time for us to leave. We headed out around 8:30 am. Todays cruise starts in the Mackinac Straits between Lake Huron and Lake Michigan and then into Lake Michigan. This will be our third Great Lake. The seas are 1-3 feet so we are rolling around a little but it’s not too bad. It’s cold though and I’m bundled up in my blanket. We are going to Charlevoix, Michigan about 6-7 hours away.

We arrived in Charlevoix and got tied up. It is a pretty little marina right in the middle of town. We walked to a restaurant and had a late lunch. After lunch we stopped for ice cream on the way back to the boat. We had a relaxing afternoon. It was a good day.

Happy Birthday Mama! We love you!!

  1. We love Northern MI. I grew up going to Suttons Bay, MI for a few weeks each summer, might want to check it out.
