Day 396 – July 22nd 2023

Day 396 July 22

This morning I slept in til 11:00 am. Not much going on today. We watched The Open golf tournament on tv. For dinner we went to The Common Stove. It was a bit of a walk but well worth it. One of the best meals in quite awhile!!

Cheers from GloriaUs!

Day 397 – July 23rd 2023

This morning I woke up not feeling very well. I felt nauseous all morning!!! Not sure what’s up but I’ve got to straighten up! Rob and Miranda are coming today and I am so excited to have them travel with us for a few days!!!

They are driving all the way from Florida to Canada!!! They got here a little after noon and Richard met them at a local restaurant. They got a well earned cocktail and takeout pizza for lunch and then came and moved onto the boat!!! It is so good to see them!!! That got all settled in in their little room.

We all had cocktails and snacks in the evening. Everyone went to bed fairly early as we were tired.

Day 398 – July 24th 2024

We left Orillia this morning and are headed to the Big Chute Marine Railway Lock!! I am so excited to go thru this lock!!! We got to the lock and there was a line of boats waiting to go thru. We got in line and waited—moving up every once in a while as the line got shorter.

Waiting in line at The Big Chute

It was finally our turn and they called us in with another smaller boat that was in line behind us. We slowly pulled up over the straps that were hanging in the water. They lifted the straps and we lifted out of the water!!! A trolley system started and carried us over a hill and a road and moved us to the water on the other side!!! It was the coolest thing ever!!! We were slowly lowered back down in the water and we cranked our engines and drove away!!!

Driving onto the Big Chute cart
Moving down the Railway!

There was a dock there at the end of the Chute and we tied up there for the night. We had a fun day going thru this amazing lock. We cooked spaghetti for dinner while we sat at the dock. Off to bed soon after.

Day 399 – July 25th 2023

We went thru the last lock of this journey for a while. We’ve probably been thru about 100 locks to this point. We docked for the night at Wye Heritage Marina. We went up to their restaurant for a late lunch. We all had fish and chips and Richard had veal parmigiana sandwich.

We sat upstairs and enjoyed the sunset with a cocktail. Later we had the leftovers warmed up for supper. It was another good day on the water!!!

Rocks everywhere!

Day 400 – July 26th 2023

Today Richard has workers coming to the boat to have our mast stepped back up. They came onboard and did that and he also had them repair electrical wiring on the head system.

Time to bring it back up!

After that was done we took a cab into the town of Midland. We did some shopping and walking around and ended up at a restaurant named Boathouse where we had a cocktail and some snacks. We took a cab back to Walmart where we bought some needed groceries. We then took an the cab back to the boat. We cooked steaks for dinner and it was yummy!!! Off to bed!!

Richard, Dawn, Miranda, and Rob

Day 401 – July 27th 2023

We left the marina this morning headed to Parry Sound. We stopped about halfway there to eat lunch at Henry’s Fish House, a restaurant we had heard about. We all had the famous fish and chips that this place is known for. They were delicious!!! We all loved our lunch!!!!

At Henry’s for dock and dine

After lunch we were not in a big hurry to leave as there was a swing bridge we need to go thru that only opens every 2 hours. We just missed it so we needed to wait for the next one. We finally got to the bridge and had to wait about 15 minutes for it to open. We got thru the bridge and the marina Big Sound Marina was just ahead. We got the boat all tied up in her slip and Rob and Miranda did some laundry to get ready for their trip home tomorrow. We cooked tacos for dinner.

Day 402 – July 28th 2024

Today is the day we have to say goodbye to Rob and Miranda. Richard went and picked up a rental car and we left headed back to Orillia where they had left their car.

The drive took about one and a half hours to get there. We said our goodbyes and left them at their car. We drove back in the rental car. We had a late lunch at a local microbrewery. We went to bed that night with no dinner since we had such a late lunch.

Day 403 – July 29th 2023

Today we are moving the boat to another marina because Richard wasn’t happy where we were…too much boat traffic!

We moved to Killbear Marina about a 2 hour boat ride away. We left the Big Sound marina around noon and got there around 2:00 pm. We got docked in and everything settled and took Charlie out for a walk and got an ice cream from a local shop. Much better already!

Sunset at Killbear Marina

For dinner we walked up to a local restaurant and Richard had liver and onions and I had chicken Parmesan. We walked back to the boat and shortly after went to bed. It was another GloriaUs day!!!

Day 404 – July 30th 2023

Not a whole lot going on today!!! I had a weeks worth of blog posts to catch up on!!! Note to self: don’t wait that long again!!!! Richard is watching golf on tv. Charlie is just chilling!!!

Charlie chillin’

We ordered pizza from the local restaurant and Richard went and picked it up. We had yummy pizza on the boat. We had to move inside because it was getting cold outside!!! In July!!!!!
