This morning Richard, Colby, and I got up had breakfast and got dressed. We had made plans to go see some of the sights in Key West today.
We went first to the Ernest Hemmingway home and museum. It is so beautiful and pretty!!! The grounds are lovely!!! The museum was very interesting. We had a good tour guide that led us through the house. The lighthouse in this picture was Hemingway’s landmark to get home after a night in the bars. It is no longer functional as the Coast Guard has built up the shore line from dredging and it is now inland! There are over 60 cats on property today. All are descendants from Hemingway’s cat, Snow White It was a very informative tour.
After the tour we went to one of Hemingway’s favorite bars on Duval street, Captain Tony’s for a drink. It was the original Sloppy Joe’s and claims to be the oldest bar in Florida. Hemingway named the bar after one of his favorite bars in Cuba. It is famous today for live music, and of course Jimmy Buffett has performed there. So we had to buy t-shirts!
We had also planned to tour Truman’s Little White House but ran out of time. So instead we found a quaint little restaurant on Duval, Grand Cafe, and had an early dinner. It was delicious!! I had shrimp scampi!!! After dinner we ubered home. It was a fun day.
